Flying Pig - Vancouver

So over my weekend, I wanted to go to Wildebeest because of the rave reviews. But of course - we were silly and we didn't make any reservations to the place and they were booked solid until 10pm when we asked for a table for two. So we ventured around Gastown for awhile until we spotted the Flying Pig. It just opened so we popped in. We got a bar seat right by the window to people watch - which we both love. It was pretty crowded - but it was a Saturday night so that's a good sign for the newly opened restaurant!

The restaurant has a really nice vibe - definitely cool enough to go and have a few drinks and just hang out. But we were famished so we ordered some drinks and a charcuterie plate to share to start. Our server was incredibly friendly and not overbearing. Pretty much the perfect server.

Honestly, just some generic cured meats and cheese. Nothing too out of the ordinary except for the spicy olives. That was a tasty little surprise! But still a delicious plate - and it was great that we had soft bread too because I love eating my meats and cheese on soft bread. Yum.

I ordered the braised beef short rib with bone marrow and mashed potatoes. Delicious!! I love marrow. I think that's why I ordered the dish actually and it was definitely the star of the dish. The short rib was really tender - but not as flavourful as I thought it would be.

This was Kevin's dish - he ordered the halibut. It looks delicious. He said the halibut was overcooked but he gobbled it all up. He left his peas and corn so I tasted it - it was so good! I pretty much scooped it all up from him. I love corn.

Overall, it was a good experience at the Flying Pig. We had a good date night and it wasn't too expensive either - the bill was under $100 including two drinks each.
